The efficacy of Vetiveria zizanioides in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland for treating textile wastewater

چکیده
Abstract Textile wastewater discharged into rivers often triggers a decrease in water quality and causes harm to its aquatic ecosystem. wastewater, which may contain nutrients, organic compounds, heavy metals, can be managed using constructed wetland system. Vetiver grass is known for ability treating polluted waters, though the information related potential controlling textile pollution riparian areas still limited. This study aimed determine efficacy of pilot scale system vetiver ( Vetiveria zizanioides ) removal several pollutants area by wastewater. The flowed horizontally through sub-surface layer with hydraulic retention time two days. was diluted 20%. Three systems were made varying porous size planting media coarse gravel, fine sand. then run three months. Of systems, highest efficiency (RE) achieved NH 4 + parameter an average higher than 60%. nutrient RE sand growing media, more 80%. values fluctuating until end experiment, might occur because not yet stable. It take longer operation get better performance removing contained industry waste.

Wastewater Treatment Using Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetland
The last few decades witnessed sharp focus on environment pollution and its impact on life in nature. Wetlands can be used for biological treatment of wastewater. Problem statement: Scarcity of water is considered as a global problem and Iran is one the countries which is facing water shortage problem. Pollution of water bodies restrict the availability of water for various uses. Treatment of w...
متن کاملDynamics of Bacterial Community Abundance and Structure in Horizontal Subsurface Flow Wetland Mesocosms Treating Municipal Wastewater
Dynamics of bacterial community abundance and structure of a newly established horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) pilot-scale wetland were studied using high-throughput sequencing and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. Bacterial community abundance increased rapidly within one month and stabilised thereafter in three replicate HSSF constructed wetland (CW) mesocosms. The most ...
متن کاملRemoval efficiency of nitrate, phosphate, fecal and total coliforms by horizontal subsurface flow-constructed wetland from domestic wastewater
Background: Constructed wetlands are systems designed based on the utilization of natural processes, including vegetation, soil, and their associated microbial assemblage to assist in treating different types of wastewater. Methods: Two local Appalachian plants (Louis latifolia and Phragmites australis) were planted into smallscale constructed wetlands to treat domestic wastewater in the North ...
متن کاملthe efficiency of typha latifolica in subsurface flow constructed wetland for wastewater treatment
background: natural methods of wastewater treatment, such as wetlands, are simple, cheap and acceptable for developing countries, especially small and remote cities. the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of typha latifolica in subsurface flow constructed wetland for wastewater treatment. methods: in this experimental research, the efficiency of typha latifolica in subsurface flow...
متن کاملDesign of horizontal and vertical subsurface flow constructed wetlands treating industrial wastewater
Constructed wetlands have become a good alternative to urban and industrial wastewater treatments. Because of the many interactions between the different parts that form the wetland, the design of these systems used to be very complex so a good design tool is required. Hybrid constructed wetlands mix the aerobic and anaerobic properties of vertical and horizontal subsurface flow constructed wet...
